Elements of Domino Zirkular
WS 25 Bachelorstudio
The design studio Elements of Domino Zirkular reverses the usual linear design process. It doesn't start with the idea, but with the material: you measure and catalog old wood from donor buildings you have selected yourself. Based on Rem Koolhaas' Elements of Architecture, they develop new, circular components from this found "kit". Detached from their original context, these elements tell their own stories and thus unfold a new, unexpected aesthetic.

Bauen mit Stroh - Potenziale der Skalierbarkeit
SS 25 Symposium
For the first time, specialist planners, architects, students and contractors came together at the straw building symposium at KIT to identify challenges, expand specialist knowledge and exchange experiences. The focus was on sustainable construction methods and innovative techniques relating to the use of straw as a building material. Various speakers presented ecological building approaches based on realized projects and illustrated the potential on different scales. In addition, the symposium offered a platform for interdisciplinary dialog, which promoted the exchange between theory and practice and opened up new perspectives in sustainable construction.

SS 25 Masterstudio
The Weissenhof Estate on Stuttgart's Killesberg is one of the most important representatives of Neues Bauen in Germany and is considered a milestone in the history of modern architecture. It is celebrating its centenary at the International Building Exhibition 2027 (IBA '27). On the occasion of the anniversary, the experimental character and pioneering spirit of this period is to be taken up in order to provide new impetus for sustainable and future-oriented construction. In the master design, the circular construction method was to be maximized and the design process reversed so that material availability and the material itself are at the beginning. The timber constructions used come from deconstructed donor buildings and are thus given a second life cycle.

Bauen mit Stroh
SS 25 Seminar
The basic seminar marked the start of the comprehensive "Building with straw" series of events. As an introduction, both historical straw buildings and contemporary buildings were analyzed in detail. The focus was particularly on the potential of this sustainable building material and the many challenges that can arise when planning and implementing straw-based construction projects. Finally, the analysis was illustrated and made comparable using axonometric sectional views.

SS 25 Exkursion
In this practical laboratory, the students had the opportunity to experience building with straw at first hand and gain valuable practical impressions. During the four-day excursion, we visited selected contemporary straw and timber construction projects that exemplify sustainable and resource-conserving construction. Local architects guided us through completed buildings or ongoing construction sites, providing practical insights into the use of materials and explaining both the technical details and ecological benefits of the building materials used.

NETTO + Living
WS 24 Bachelorstudio
How do people want to live together today and tomorrow? What are the prerequisites for good neighborhoods in an urban context? How can contemporary living models be reflected in housing construction? How can a market promote cohesion and identity in a neighborhood? While modernism proclaimed a separation of work and living, today innovative housing construction must develop offers for increasingly differentiated lifestyles. The focus of the task is therefore a forward-looking residential building that will be constructed in conjunction with a commercial use on the first floor on a site in a heterogeneous environment in Kaiserslautern.
